Liberty Styles is a tap dancer, singer and bandleader in NYC. She spent ten years as a flamenco dancer in the United States and Spain, learning from Ines Arrubla and Andres Marin. Liberty began tap dancing in 2014 and has studied primarily under Derick K. Grant. She has performed as a soloist and with her band on NYC stages including Nublu, ShapeShifter Lab, Knitting Factory, Smalls, The Django, Harlem Stage, Symphony Space, Arlene’s Grocery, and more. In 2018, Liberty founded a monthly tap jam session in Brooklyn called The Spell which creates space for a community of tap dancers, musicians, singers, and other performers to experiment. She has most recently curated evenings of live jazz music and tap dance at Nublu and ShapeShifter Lab. In February 2019, Liberty Styles released her first EP “Flipside,” which features her compositions with live instrumentation, tap dance, and vocals.
