Liberty Styles is a tap dancer, singer and bandleader in NYC. She spent ten years as a flamenco dancer in the United States and Spain, learning from Ines Arrubla and Andres Marin. Liberty began tap dancing in 2014 and has studied primarily under Derick K. Grant. She has performed as a soloist and with her band on NYC stages including Nublu, ShapeShifter Lab, Smalls, The Django, Harlem Stage, Ginny’s Supper Club, Symphony Space, Arlene’s Grocery, and more. In 2018 she founded a monthly tap jam session in Brooklyn called The Spell which offers space for tap dancers, musicians, and other performers to experiment. In February 2019, Liberty Styles released her first EP “Flipside,” which features her compositions with live instrumentation, tap dance, and vocals. Liberty performs with Grammy-nominated trumpeter Alphonso Horne and his New Orleans style band Gotham Kings. Liberty has also danced in Subject:Matter, a Boston-based tap dance company directed by Ian Berg, and with NY Times-featured tap dancer Michela Marino Lerman’s band Love Movement.
